Susan Messersmith, Experienced Trumpet Instructor

Welcome, trumpet students!

Thank you for visiting my website and doing research to find the right trumpet teacher for you! I have been teaching students for over 30 years and enjoy tailoring teaching methods to the needs of each individual student. From beginners to music majors to retirees, I enjoy spending time with my students, helping them learn not just how to play the trumpet, but how to make music!

I grew up in a house filled with music. Both my parents were church musicians (choral and organ), and they also played duo-piano concerts at home. The piano was my first instrument, starting at the age of 5. Then I was introduced to the trumpet around the age of 11 when I started in the public school band program. After a few years of private lessons in high school, I decided to major in music.

During my conservatory years, I studied regularly with members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Music of the Baroque and more. In various summer music festivals, I attended lessons and masterclasses with renowned brass players from all over the world. Studying with the best, along with over 20 years as a professional performer and educator, gives me a wide and varied background to share with you!

I’m looking forward to meeting you and sharing this musical journey together!
Please contact me to discuss setting up an initial lesson so we can get to know each other. See you soon!
